Building Management Systems: A Detailed Guide

A building management system (BMS) monitors and manages the mechanical, electrical, and electromechanical services in a facility. The service may include power, heating, ventilation, air-conditioning, physical access control, pumping stations, elevators, and lights.

To put it simply about the very basic building management systems the software, a server with a database, and a smart sensor in connection to an Internet-capable network are to be mentioned. Smart sensors around the building are designed to gather data in order and send it to the BMS. This is where it gets stored in a database. If any data is reported by the sensor that does not come under the predefined conditions, the BMS will send an alert and ring an alarm.

The system decides whether BMS software can be installed as a standalone application or whether it is to be integrated with other monitoring programs. More improved BMSes are featured with technologies to monitor and handle a wide range of building services across multiple platforms and protocols as they provide facility administrators with a single, shared view of the facility's operations.

No matter what size of plant or office building it is, you need to keep

track of and control its various systems. There are innumerable benefits served by Building management systems (BMS). They are sometimes called building automation systems (BAS) that are used to manage their facilities’ heating and cooling plants, air handling units, lighting control, and other core elements. Using BMSs you can have control over the main energy-consuming systems in a

facility and also over safety equipment.

Advanced building management systems are capable of more tasks. Typically this software can monitor and manage a central server or servers, monitoring stations (for systems administrators), and remote sensors.
